Sunday Coupon Preview is up!
This Sunday, January 3rd, there will be 5 inserts total. 3 Smart Source and 2 Red Plum. You can go here to read a list of what coupons to expect.
It’s week’s like this when I am really glad that I don’t cut every coupon out of the inserts anymore.
FYI ~ Vegas does not get all the inserts (no redplum or P&G) that the schedule show, make sure that you look through the paper so that you KNOW that you have the inserts before purchasing them.
Pantry Challenge 2
Check out this site. It will help explain the pantry challenge. It can be done anyway you want it to be. I am going to try it. It will be a great way to see what I have in my "stock" and save us some money right now. Which will be a great thing!
Pantry Challenge
Erin found this site and forwarded to me.
Crystal at Money Saving Mom has a challenge that she is going to be doing next month. I think it is really interesting and I'm going to try it too. If you are interested in participate with us let me know. :)
It's so easy to think we have to go to the store every single week (or maybe even more often!), but I've found that when I challenge myself to make do with what I already have on hand, we can usually eat pretty well. Plus, we can save a lot of money in the process!
In recent weeks, I've been feeling like we have all sorts of odds and ends in our pantry, refrigerator, and freezers which need to be used up. But with the busyness of the Christmas season, I didn't have much creative juices or energy to come up with ways to use this random assortment of items. Thus, the Eat From the Pantry Challenge idea was born.
I'd been contemplating how I wanted to pull it off, when FishMama wrote and asked if I'd be interested in doing an Eat From the Pantry Challenge in January since she was also feeling like her cupboards were bulging. I guess great minds think alike, huh?!
So we brainstormed for a few days and decided we'd co-host an Eat From the Pantry Challenge on our blogs January 1-31, 2010. We're attempting to avoid grocery shopping as much as possible and will be blogging what we're feeding our families, creative recipes we're concocting, and how we're pulling this whole thing off.
To be perfectly honest, I'm still not exactly sure at this point how I am pulling this off because I've never done something like it before. Let's just hope it doesn't royally flop seeing as there's no such thing as backing out now!
The good news is that I have all of you and FishMama so if I get in a bind or run out of ideas, I'll know just where to turn. Whatever happens, I know it will be an adventure!
Now, let me say right upfront that I am not going to completely avoid buying any groceries for a month. We like to have fresh eggs, milk, and produce, so I plan to buy those at least three times during the month.
So here are our family's goals for the Eat From The Pantry Challenge:
1) Stop at the store a maximum of three times in January.
2) Only buy dairy (milk, eggs, cheese, etc.) and produce (fruits/vegetables).
3) Spend a total of $75 or less on groceries during the month of January.
4) Donate the extra $85 leftover (or more) that we would usually spend on groceries to Gleaning the Harvest.
Now for some caveats: we usually have dinner out once a week as a family (this comes out of our "Dates and Eating Out" envelope and is separate from our grocery money) so we plan to continue that. We also often eat a meal at our extended family's house at least once per week and we plan to continue that, as well. Plus, we'll actually be in California for the first few days in January visiting FishMama and her family so we aren't going to officially start our Eat From The Pantry Challenge until we get home.
You can see FishMama's goals and plan for her family here.
Would you like to join us in this Eat from the Pantry Challenge? We'd love to have you along! However, I want to encourage you to make your own rules according to what works best for your own family's needs. Don't feel obligated to do things the way we've decided to do it; do what works for you!
You can join in the entire month, or for two weeks, or just a week--it's up to you! It's not a competition, we just hope to encourage you to get creative and save money by wisely using things in your freezer, refrigerator, and pantry.
So, set goals for your own family for the Eat From The Pantry Challenge. And, if possible, consider setting aside the money you save by participating in this Challenge and either applying it towards debt, putting it into savings, or donating it to a worthy cause.
This is a simple way that you can squeeze a little extra out of a tight budget to help meet a financial goal or give to someone in need. It's not required that you do this to participate, it's just something I'd encourage you to consider.
At the end of each week in January, we'll have a post with a Mr. Linky for you to share about what you ate from your pantry the past week and how the Challenge is going for you. You can also interact with others participating in this challenge on Facebook or follow along here on Twitter with the hashtag #pantry.

Couponing to Disney
I just wanted to make sure that everyone that is following Kristin's blog Couponing to Disney knows that she has moved her blog. She is no longer on blogspot, apparently blogspot has a spam software and because she is always updating her site trying to help us save money, she felt it was better to move her blog now then have it marked as spam. Her new blog is easy to remember www.couponingtodisney.com
If you are not following her blog.... You should! :)

Are you like me.... ADDICTED?
I found this and wanted to share this with you. It proves it... once you start couponing you will be addicted like the rest of us. LOL
From our families to yours, our sincerest best wishes for a Merry Christmas! But seriously, what are you doing on the computer? It’s Christmas Eve for Heavens sake! I think it’s time we sat down and had a talk. First, we want you to know that we love you very much & appreciate your patronage on our blog. But, we’ve been thinking a lot about this and now that you’re here– on Christmas Eve, it’s time we staged an intervention. We’re worried you may be suffering from Coupon Addiction. Now don’t get upset, please just listen while we share some of the symptoms.
•The first time you saved over 50% on your grocery bill you felt a ‘coupon high’
•Now that you’ve been couponing for awhile, your need increases to save even more money to achieve the same effect or feeling.
•You think it’s normal to have grocery shopped at more than three stores in one day.
•You think buying 40 boxes of cereal at a time is “conservative”.
•You have tried but failed to stop couponing.
•You’ve laid awake at night planning your coupon trips and you’ve dreamed about coupons.
•You’re in Denial: You make excuses saying that you coupon for the money you save & because it’s fun. Reality Check; you’re not just a social couponer anymore.
•You spent over an hour clipping paper this month, and haven’t made a single snowflake.
Answering yes to three or more of the above symptoms during a 12 month period may show that you have an addiction.
Hey wait a minute; I think I may be addicted too. Oh no! What will I do? I don’t think I can quit! I don’t have that kind of commitment; I’d relapse for sure. And they say there is no cure for an addiction. Oh well, if you can’t beat ‘em, join ‘em! See you in the shopping aisles!
But seriously, snuggle up with your family these next couple days. We’ll see you soon, but get out of here til after Christmas!
Thank you www.thekrazycouponlady.com I was just thinking that I am so addicted and IRRITATED that Christmas week we get NO grocery store advertisments. (FYI Vons doesn't count. LOL)

Beef coupon! VONS
Safeway and its affiliate stores are offering a great coupon on their websites. You can save $2 off Rancher’s Reserve with card and coupon. This coupon doesn’t have a minimum beef purchase requirement. So if you can find small packages of Rancher’s Reserve beef you can walk away with some very inexpensive beef. Check even marked down meat. The coupon does require a $10 minimum purchase, so bring it with you when you go grocery shopping. If you are buying more than $10 in items, consider splitting your orders to be able to use more than one coupon. Also, according to Laina over at Abundant Food Savings, you may be able to print more copies of this coupon at the affiliate store’s websites. Here are the websites:

Coupon Train - what do you think?
I was just looking around other blogs and found the website www.allyou.com. I signed up for a free trial of the magazine (2 months) in 4-8 weeks I can tell you how great it is. LOL Of course you can sign up and we can talk about it together. :)
I was looking around that site and found a couponing section that helped to teach people about coupons. They had some different sections like beginners, intermediate and advance couponing lessons. I read a very interesting way to "trade" coupons. Check this out. I just copied and pasted so it would be easier to understand.
Hop on a coupon train
A coupon train is a more regimented way to increase your stockpile. Go to a forum such as Vickysdeals.com and AFullCup.com. After signing up for a train, you’ll get an envelope with a predetermined number of coupons in it (usually 25, 50 or 100). Pull the ones you like, and replenish it with coupons you want to give away. Send it to the next person on the list. The train travels in a continuous loop, with each person taking from, and adding to, the supply.
Know the rules for riding the train
Most trains have strict rules. You’ll have a short turnaround time―as little as one to three days--in which to mail off your replenished envelope after receiving it. Replace coupons you take with similarly high-value coupons for desirable products; “junk” coupons for items few people can use, such as denture cream, are frowned upon. And about-to-expire coupons are a no-no.
Combine your methods
Take a cue from All You reader Amy Barr, who both trades and uses a coupon train: “I save money by trading in two online groups, Our Coupon CafĂ© and the All American Coupon Train. We also trade in the form of trains, which have four passengers and a conductor. I get coupons from all areas of the country, some of which have a higher cost of living, causing the coupons to be printed at a higher value. With this and other methods, I save about $150-$200 off my grocery and drugstore bill per week.”
So my question is...... Has anyone ever done this? Does anyone want to start a COUPON TRAIN? Let me know. I think it really could help us all.

Swagbucks
I have posted a link on the right side of this blog regarding Swagbuck. Swagbucks is a search engine that will give you "bucks" throughout the day just for using the search engine. You can earn 2-5 per day. Then you can redeem them for purchases from Amazon.com. I think it is a win win situation. :) Check it out. Click on the right side of this blog or below and let me know what you think.
